You have a website and you want to create a squeeze page or sales page. You’d like to use Optimize Press. But… Optimize Press is a theme. You can’t have 2 themes running on the same installation of WordPress.
Optimize Press promises that you can start building your new site in under 15 minutes. They don’t have fine print, but if they did it would tell you that you can only do this if you are starting with an empty directory.
So what’s a girl to do?
1. Really, the only way to use Optimize Press is in a new directory.
If you already have a website, you need to create a new directory, install WordPress, and use Optimize Press as the theme there. You can either do new-directory.yoursite.com or www.yoursite.com/new-directory. Either way will work. How you do it will depend on how you want to say the URL to others.
Advantage: It makes it so easy to create other pages. Example, www.yoursite.com/product-name/home and www.yoursite.com/product-name/demo and www.yoursite.com/product-name/thank-you, etc.
Disadvantage: You now have to do all the updates and security that you have to do to the main directory since you now, in essence, have 2 sites.
2. You can forget Optimize Press and create an HTML page for the squeeze page.
Advantage: There’s still only one instance of WordPress so it’s easier to maintain.
Disadvantage: You wanted to use Optimize Press and now you are using a “lowly HTML page”.
3. Your third option is to create a new template for your theme
Advantage: It keeps the squeeze page a WordPress page.
Disadvantage: This requires coding knowledge. Also, it’s not Optimize Press.
Which way are you going to do it?
