There has been a debate lately about whether or not to use a HOME link in your navigation bar. Side A says no, you don’t need one. They say you can always get home by clicking on a person’s logo and that it takes up valuable – and limited – real estate on your website which can be used for something else. Side B of the argument says that you should have a HOME link/button because not everyone is web savvy and some people won’t know how to get back home without a link.
Here are my thoughts. Pay attention to the websites that you go to in the next few days. Most of them will have the HOME button, but suppose they didn’t. How would you feel? Would you feel lost, or would you feel ok getting back to the Home Page? Do you even need to go back to the Home Page?
See, your ideal website visitors are a lot like you. If you are savvy enough to find your way around and not get lost in someone’s site, most likely your website visitors will too. If you feel like you are a bit uneasy with the thought of not having a HOME button, then you should have one on your site.
What are your thoughts on the Home button issue? Yay or Nay?
